amandaisabamf-deactivated201201 asked: What is your absolute favorite Christmas memory, and why??
How did I not see this?! I’m the worst message answerer ever.
Honestly, I don’t remember much of my childhood. I have no idea why.
But, the first thing that came to mind is my Grandad. When I was young, we’d always have a bonfire on Christmas Eve and then go back and play around it on Christmas Day.
I remember when I was about 9 or 10, me, my brother and my sister went up to the ponds on my Grandad’s property to build the bonfire. Andy and Cissy were messing around and not listening to anything Grandad was saying. But I was. Because I’m awesome.
He taught me how to build a fire, how to be patient (the only time I am) and I think about that every time I see a campfire now.
Now, my brother is somewhat of a pyro. He’s really bad at it. He cheats and uses lighter fluid plus, he has no idea how to control it. For instance,
- Two Thanksgivings ago he caught the field on fire and had to call the fire department.
- 8 years ago he caught the field on fire once again and ended up blowing up our Jeep. The firemen had to drive the huge fire engine back through our valley about a mile then drive up the steep gravel road my grandparents built with a chainsaw to get to the fire.
Anyway, my family got away from the bonfire tradition after my grandfather died in 1995, but last year we started it back up again. We have it all planned out to do it again this year, too.
I’m building the fire though.
