Progress and Goals
I did sprints today.  At the first of the month, I would sprint 50 yards and then have to take the rest of the lap to recover.  This morning, I ran 1/2 a lap, recovered in 50 yards and started my sprints.  I had recovered in 50 yards.  What… Plus, I didn’t have ankle cramps today.  Yes, you read that correctly.  No ankle cramps, shin cramps or pain of any kind. So, in January I: ...

Sunday Challenge!
Okay, Mr. Pat, I accept your challenge!  Here’s the list of 10 things I think about when I’m running: “Oh my goodness, I’m running! Yay!  I wonder if I look like those girls and guys that run all the time.” “Wow, I could do this forever.” “Oh wait, there go my stupid ankle cramps.” “Just ignore them and they’ll go away.” ...

One Mile!
Before my time of fabulousness: During my time of fabulousness: That, my friends, is billowing smoke.  What does this have to do with running, you ask?  The wind was blowing this right on the track.  But I ran anyway!* After my time of fabulousness: Okay, it wasn’t pretty.  But I ran a mile!  Eine Meile!  I took several breaks for my ankles and calves but they weren’t long...

It’s 70 degrees outside.  Seriously.  What does this mean, kids?  It means this piece of fabulous is going to go outside and run a mile. That’s right: 1 mile. Not my usual half a mile.  A whole mile.

nourritureetfleurs: We’re always thinking “What if something bad happens?” when, in reality, someone SHOULD be sitting on our shoulder saying, “Ah, but - what if something GOOD does?”  This is my new motto.  Love it.

Alright.  I made a ridiculous resolution.  My first resolution this year was “I will not go on a diet in 2011.”  I had good reason behind this and I honestly thought I could handle it on my own.  However, January has been a very good indication that I indeed cannot do it on my own.  As you all witnessed here and here and in many other posts. I have eaten non-stop.  And that’s...

Minestrone
I don’t have enough recipe posts.  So here’s Minestrone. Brown lean ground beef and add chopped celery, carrots and onion.   Cook until the onions are translucent.  Then add some spice: Then add a bit of tomaters and a bit of chicken broth and some H2O.  (We freeze our chicken stock and I got the last jar out of the freezer, put it in some water and the jar broke!  So I had to...

Shaun T. and I have been talking.  I know, I know.  You’re thinking this is going to be one of those on again off again things.  But hear me out.  I told him I like to take things slow and that I like to have me time as well.  But he still wants to spend every day with me. After taking about a month and a half break, we’ve come to a compromise.  We will spend time together, but...

The Adventures of Good Mil
Last week on the Adventures of Good Mil: Bad Mil was keeping Good Mil from the simple pleasures of slathering on lotion only to save a penny.  The stingy Bad Mil watched with glee as Good Mil suffered from the effects of the winter air.  Cracking skin! Itching skin! Was Good Mil victorious in her lotion battle with Bad Mil? She was! Will Good Mil continue to enjoy this luxurious habit? ...

Bad Mil Strikes Back
I woke up today at 5:15 this morning, 30 minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off.  The first thought that went through my head (other than “I hope Petie didn’t pee on the bath mat again…”) was “I’ll just sleep in today.” I tried to go back to sleep, but I ended up laying there until my alarm went off.  I hit snooze and figured I’d look at...

Dear Body,
What’s that?  Are you already waking up before 5:45 am because you’re excited to go to the track?  Surely not.  But if that’s what you want to do, I guess that’s cool. But please, when I do take you to the track that early, could you tell your ankles and shins to stop complaining the whole time?  They really take the fun out of it and I think you could go so much farther...

Who got up at 5:45 am this morning to go to the track? Who didn’t hit the snooze button in her sleep until 6:30 am? Who ran half a mile almost non-stop? Who made breakfast this morning? And who was early to work this morning? This piece of awesome right here: Do you see that?  This, my friend, is the the face of super-fantasticness. Word.

Your life is the fruit of your own doing. You have no one to blame but yourself.—Joseph Campbell This man is amazing.  Everything that comes out of his mouth just hits me in the face.  I hate it when people make me think and hold me accountable and put me in my “all-you-ever-do-is-make-excuses” place.  Gah! I’ve tried controlling my food intake by taking pictures and...

Food Hates Me!
I’ve been having troubles with food for about a year.  When I eat certain foods, my body reacts in odd ways.  The worst is when I have stabbing stomach pains that go all the way through to my back.  I’ve told myself repeatedly that I need to take note of these foods and talk to my doctor about it.  Unfortunately, I have doctor that doesn’t really listen. So!  I created a page...

ellisrobertson asked: The hip pain you have -- how did it start? I only ask because I had hip pain back in 2003 and it took a winding, painful road to something not good. Single-sided hip pain (even in a total stranger) thus has a tendency to worry me.

Hip Pain!
Pain at the side of the hip Description: Pain in the side of your hip, usually at the joint of your hip and thigh but sometimes a bit higher toward the hip bone. Likely causes: A basic overuse injury. You’ve inflamed the fascia in your hips, the flexible fibers in the joint. The specific reasons for this pain vary for different runners. The culprit may be weak back muscles, the type of...

I feel I am focusing too much on food and exercise.  I always do this.  This is my cycle.  Then I get frustrated when I’m not seeing results fast enough and I eventually give up. But since this time I’m going to win, I’m going to shift my focus elsewhere.  I will still be making healthier food choices and working on calling myself a runner, but I am going to add other things to...

Food!
Breakfast! Worst breakfast in the world…I was running late!  And this lead to the rest of the day. While picking up my mother: Where I conveniently left my phone… I swear it was an accident!  But then I ate chicken fajitas… Just two!  And chips.  Stupid chips!  The greasy, cheesy, guacamole goodness!  Why did God create mexican food?!  Why god?! Then for supper: The...

Hills. Suck.  Who am I kidding?  The slightest incline sucks. My brother and I ran/walked 3.1 miles today.  I got tired and bored with the track, so we walked downtown, through the college, did a lap at the track and then came back.  Uphill the whole way there…  We did it it 57 minutes and 57 seconds.  I have no idea how long we ran all together because I forgot to keep track of that. ...

Sometimes I feel like there are two different minds inside of me.  There’s the part of me—let’s call her Bad Mil (so clever!)—that likes being “unhappy,” negative, boring, and lazy by cuddling up on the sofa with Petie and watching TV.  Bad Mil wants to eat just because she’s bored and tells herself that she can’t be a runner.  “What’s...

Yoga!
I enjoy yoga and I went to classes when I was in college and when I got back home.  The gym where my class was shut down and the instructor went to a different town.  I tried another gym, but the girl was so high that she was just laughing at herself and rolling around on the floor.  Of course I didn’t want to pay money for that!  I’ve looked and I can’t seem to find any other...

Oh no!
notsoskinnyteacher: I know I am only a week and a half into this, but I am losing motivation fast!  You can do it!  The hardest part is making it a habit and forcing yourself to go (for me anyway).  It will get easier, I promise.  If I start to miss exercising I know everyone else can. You’ve lost 7.5 pounds in a week and a half!!!!  That is awesome!  That’s more than Petie!  More...

Oh. My. God.  I have been running wrong? There’s a wrong way to run? I finally watched that video that’s been going around (I don’t remember where I saw it) on how we’re running wrong. I ran twice as far.  Love. It. P.S.  I love running.  I have terrible days when I don’t run.  The past two days are proof. So, the moral of this story, kids?  Run everyday!
